Project Downforce is a SNES “Mode7″ inspired retro racer for Mac and PC.

Project Downforce features seven race tracks from around the world, challenging AI and addictive, friend-punching multiplayer mayhem.

If Super Monaco GP and Super Mario Kart had a baby, it would be Project Downforce.

Please note: The following screen grabs are from a WIP version of the game.

Project Downforce is in the final stages of development and will be available soon!

  1. It seems that the iphone’s version does not have clouds. Will this come with the next update?? I think this is such a nice visual touch that cannot be without.

    • Hi there! Yes, I took the clouds out when I was optimising for mobile devices, but after quite a few tweaks, I discovered that it wasn’t much of a performance gain, so I will put the clouds back in soon. Cheers!

  2. Hey there,
Saw your new Project Downforce App! Very cool and really fun game!
Noticed that you didn’t have an explainer/teaser video…
Let me know if we could be of any help.

  3. Hi, Wallace here, i’m a game dev starting create games in this year, and i want make a 16 bit car game just like yours (with a little difference, because it’s more like Mario Kart battle style).

I’m trying in this two weeks to make with Flash, Starling, and etc, but with no success in terms of fps.

My question is if you use Unity, as your other two games, and if the yes, if you use some differente library to use the 2D effect.

    Thanks.

    • Hi Wallace. Yes, the game was made with Unity. It actually started out as a battle style game with completely different gfx, some zany characters etc but we decided for the first attempt to cut it back and make something a bit simpler. There were no external libraries used. Everything in Unity is done in 3D, I simply used custom plane objects with textures as the sprites and made sure that they always face the camera. Hope this helps!
